Why Does It Feel Like Everyone Else Has It Figured Out Except Me?

“Why can’t I handle things that other people seem to handle so easily?”If you’ve asked yourself this, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common questions I hear, and one of the heaviest to carry.

The Short AnswerYour experiences are unique to you, so it isn’t fair to measure your journey against anyone else’s.Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or behind doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Often, the expectations we place on ourselves make it hard to see the progress we’ve already made. Therapy can be a space to understand where those expectations come from, reconnect with what matters most to you, and recognize the strengths that have carried you this far.

What This Looks Like in Everyday LifeThis feeling often shows up as:

  • Comparing your insides to other people’s outsides. You measure your struggles against how others appear to be doing.
  • Telling your story through what’s missing. Your life starts to feel defined by deficits and setbacks rather than growth.
  • Overthinking and low motivation. The comparison loop drains energy you could be putting elsewhere.
  • Minimizing your own feelings. “Other people have it worse, so I shouldn’t feel this way.”
  • Treating thoughts as facts. Your emotions and self-judgments start to feel like absolute truths rather than experiences you’re having.

How I HelpIn our work together, you can expect a blend of approaches:

  • Strength-Based Approaches
  • Humanistic and Multicultural Values
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Narrative Therapy

Together, we create a space that encourages authenticity and self-compassion. You are the expert on your life, and I’m a fellow traveler alongside you. In our sessions, you take control of your narrative, and we work together to highlight the moments of strength and resilience that already run through your story.

How Long Does It Take? The honest answer: it depends. Some factors are within our control and some aren’t. Therapy looks different for everyone, and change rarely happens in a straight line. We’ll set a pace together, with regular check-ins about your progress, the hard parts, and your goals.

Not Sure You Need Therapy?I’m not here to tell you what you’re doing wrong or what you should be doing instead.Therapy isn’t only about talking through what’s going wrong. It can be a space to feel empowered, reconnect with the values you want to live by, and recognize the strength and courage you already have.
